Sydney K. Smith

About

Sydney Smith is a PhD Student at Washington State University with the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs. She holds a MSc in International Relations from the University of Glasgow and a MA in Political Science from Washington State University. She is a 2025-2026 Fulbright Schuman Scholar to the European Union. Her research focuses on gender and politics at the international and national level, looking at multi-level policy making and implementation of international treaties. Additionally, she is involved in research examining the intersection of gender identities and political identities looking at the use of masculinity by politicians. Her dissertation is set to use the GEPP approach to look at the implementation of the Istanbul Convention in Croatia and Slovenia. Smith is a co-author on the chapter on equal pay in the United States. Lastly, she has aided in development of the GEPP website.
