Soline Blanchard

Soline Blanchard is Associate Professor in Sociology at the University of Lumière Lyon 2 and member of the Centre Max Weber in France (CMW). She is co-Director of the Master in Inequalities and Discriminations at the Institute of Work and Labour Studies of Lyon (IETL). Her research interests lie at the intersection of several branches of sociology (public action, work, organizations and markets) and explore the promotion of the women’s cause in institutions and the professionalization of gender equality work.

She is the author of numerous articles, including “Feminism through the market? A study of gender-equality consultants in France” (Gender, Work & Organization, 29(2), 2022: 443-465), “The market for gender equality expertise: providing services to public and private organizations in France” (European Journal of Politics and Gender, 2(1), 2019: 93-111) and “Le benchmarking au service de l’égalité ? Sociogenèse du Palmarès de la féminisation des instances dirigeantes du SBF 120” (Gouvernement et action publique, 7(4), 2018: 39-61). She recently co-edited the special issue The resistible institutionalization of the women’s cause (With Alban Jacquemart, Marie Perrin and Alice Romerio, Actes de la recherche en sciences sociales, 223(3), 2018) and the book Quantifier l’égalité au travail. Outils politiques et enjeux scientifiques (With Sophie Pochic, Presses Universitaires de Rennes, 2021), which explores how the sociology of quantification makes it possible to think critically about public equality policies and organizational strategies based on numbers and indicators.
