About
Sabine Lang is Professor of International and European Politics at the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies of the University of Washington. From 2015 to 2024, she directed the Center for West European Studies and EU/Jean Monnet Center of Excellence. From 2021 to 2024, she held an EU Jean Monnet Chair in Civil Society, Inclusion and Diversity. Her research centers on gender politics and comparative politics with an emphasis on political representation, NGOs and social movements. Her latest publications include an edited volume, jointly with Prof. Petra Meier/University of Antwerp, and Prof. Birgit Sauer/University of Vienna, titled Party Politics and the Implementation of Gender Quotas – Resisting Institutions (Palgrave MacmIllan 2023) and a co-written monograph on Gender Equality in Politics: Implementing Party Quotas in Germany and Austria (with Petra Ahrens, Katja Chmilewski and Birgit Sauer, Springer 2020). She edited a special issues of the journal German Politics and published a co-edited volume titled Leading From Behind? Gender Equality in Germany During the Merkel Era (with Petra Ahrens and Phil Ayoub) published by Palgrave in 2023. Another edited volume on Gendered Mobilizations and Intersectional Challenges was co-edited with Jill Irvine and Celeste Montoya with ECPR Press/Rowman & Littlefield in 2019.
