Fiona Buckley

About

Fiona Buckley is a lecturer in the Department of Government and Politics, University College Cork (UCC), Ireland specialising in the research and teaching about women in politics. Fiona’s research is largely focused on women’s political representation in Ireland where she examines the use of gender quotas in Irish elections; women, gender and cabinet government in Ireland; and women, gender and political violence. She has also published on electoral administration and the pedagogy of political science. Fiona’s work has been published in many leading political science journals and she is currently working on a monograph (working title) Gendered Power: Women, Gender and Cabinet Government in Ireland (Palgrave). As well as being a member of the Gender Equality Policy in Practice (GEPP) Network, Fiona is also a member of the Feminism and Institutionalism International Network (FIIN). Currently, Fiona is a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) with Vibeke Wang (Principal Investigator), Akosua Darkwah (Co-PI), Elin Bjarnegård (Co-PI), Gerald Karyeija (Co-PI), Gretchen Bauer (Co-PI), Pär Zetterberg (Co-PI), Ragnhild Muriaas (Co-PI) and Stella Kyohairwe (Co-PI) of The Cost of Doing Politics: Gender Aspects of Political Violence, which is funded by the Research Council of Norway (Project No. 300618). Fiona has served on a taskforce of the Irish Parliament to examine ways to enhance the inclusivity and diversity of the Oireachtas (Irish parliament). She has also been asked to provide evidence to parliamentary committees on matters in relation to women’s political leadership.
