About
Ana Espírito-Santo (PhD, European University Institute, Florence, 2011) is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon (IUL) and a senior researcher at the Centre for Sociological Studies and Research (CIES-Iscte) in Lisbon, Portugal. Her main research interests are gender and politics, political representation, and comparative politics, and most of her publications focus on the topic of political representation from a gender perspective. Her research appears in journals such as West European Politics, Electoral Studies, European Journal of Politics and Gender, and Party Politics. Ana has been involved in various national and international research projects at the Institute of Social Sciences (ICS) in Lisbon, CIES-Iscte, European University Institute (EUI), and University of California, San Diego (USA). She is currently responsible for the Portuguese case in the ERC Synergy project “The Quality of Women’s Political Representation” (funded by UKRI). Ana served as the Director of the BA in Political Science at Iscte-IUL (2015-2021), has been a member of the Portuguese Electoral Behavior program since 2002, and is currently part of the Steering Committee of the Consortium of National Election Studies (CNES).
